Well, another day, another new tool. Before you start getting suspicious, I’m not out to sell anything here – Caroline Middlebrook’s new tool is completely free (at the moment, anyway….) but no doubt Caroline will be expecting to boost sales of her paid-for products via this. Which is only fair.
On the face of it, this seems pretty good although at the moment you’re only going to get back-links from a bunch of social bookmarking sites (reading the blurb, it seems there are more tools coming soon, so hopefully some diversification). As we know, social bookmarking links can prove to be worse than useless (especially if you click the button that says “submit to all 50 sites at once” – don’t do this!) so the benefits of these links will remain to be seen. I’ve submitted just one URL to the tool, and asked it to submit to 28 sites at one per day (even this will probably prove too aggressive for Google, but, hey, I’m experimenting, right?) It’ll be interesting to see whether I get any kind of traffic boost, go straight to the sandbox, or nothing happens at all. I shall update here as results become clear.
Now, there is quite a bit of controversy around Caroline and her methods on the old Interwebs and much more experienced people than I have expressed much scepticism about her. All I can say is that this tool shows promise, especially if she expands the type and number of sites its linking out from (I wouldn’t even consider a paid-for version otherwise). It does a whole bunch of back-linking in one click which has got to be a great result for anyone, right? Provided it doesn’t lead straight to the sand. I’ll let you know.
