Make Easy Money Online – an explanation
Ok, here's a lesson in Internet Marketing, and probably the most important one. Why does the phrase "Make Easy Money Online" appear so often on this website? Easy - because that's what its about, right?
Yes - but I didn't choose it because I believe making money on the internet is an easy prospect (I know it isn't). I didn't choose it because I'm trying to con people into thinking it'll be easy, either. I chose it because I've done my research, and discovered that enough people are typing that exact phrase into Google every day to make it a potentially profitable keyword phrase. That's today's lesson - do your keyword research. I always start with the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, a great free service from Google that tells you exactly how many people are searching for a given phrase every month - and how much advertisers are willing to pay for clicks on ads for that topic. Once I've established that a keyword has potential, the next thing to do is check out the competition. Now, unusually for a keyword in the Make Money Online niche, it turns out that "make easy money online" has managable competition - which means that with a bit of work I should be able to rank highly in the Google search results for it. In theory. So the next step is to achieve that ranking.
Now, "manageable competition" means that the highest ranked websites on Google for this phrase are not too strong. Google uses a system called Page Rank that indicates the relative strength of a page, with Page Rank 0 being the weakest and Page Rank 10 being the highest. The top 4 pages for "make easy money online" are all PR3 or less, which means that with the right promotion I should be able to outrank them. In time. This is not going to be an overnight process. By "the right promotion" I mean getting links from other sites back to this one (backlinks), which is a whole other post for a whole other time.
By the way, I recommend you steer away from the topic of Making Money Online if you're planning to set up a blog. It's a ridiculously overcrowded niche, and there's absolutely no guarantee you'll make a penny. This site has been up for 6 months or so, has more than 4000 posts but as yet is ranked nowhere for "make easy money online". And probably never will be. It makes a bit of money, but not nearly as much as a less competetitive niche could. So, do your keyword research assisuously and choose your niche wisely.
